Marketing
on social media only works if you have people who follow you--and in this case
the more, the better. You need to post items that convince people to follow you
on Twitter, like you on Facebook, and so on. There are celebrities and
businesses that have millions of fans or followers over social media. Big names
usually find it easy to get likes simply because users are already aware of who
they are or what they do, however it does not mean that small businesses or
startups cannot get fans. It is all possible but only with the right tricks.
To do this you need to be consistent, and know what your
potential audience wants. You also need to be a good social media citizen. Here
are some great tips to do just that.
Post original and relevant content
Your content MUST be original, and it must be relevant. It is OK
to share other people's posts and thoughts, but you need to add your own
insight. At the end of the day, you want people to know you for what you are.
Be responsive
Posting engaging content is just part of the equation. You
should respond in a timely manner to comments, questions, and complaints. Plus,
this will also help spread word of mouth and help you get more shares and likes
etc. that help bring in more fans.
Post interesting stories
It is crucial not to appear too promotional. Tell stories that
will engage and connect with your followers. Good stories stand a much better
chance of being shared, and going viral, which is exactly what you want.
Hold contests and giveaways
There is no better way to get more followers and have a viral
post than to hold a contest. You can offer free service or products, and the
advertising you'll get will be worth more than the value of most anything you
offer, within reason of course. To get entry in the contest, make it where
entrants will have to like and follow your page, and share it on their own
social media accounts.
Post on a regular basis
The optimum frequency you should post will vary between social
media networks and audiences. You can test out to see what kind of responses
you get. Go with whatever frequency gets the most responses. Usually, posting
twice a day is considered good, and the right timing depends on a number of
things including when you get the maximum activity.
Provide valuable information without sounding
like a snob
Providing
content in subjects in which you are an expert has an excellent chance of being
shared. Think of industry specific content and knowledge you can share. But
make sure you do it without sounding like a know-it-all. For example, if you
are a lawyer you can share your knowledge in the form of law FAQ.
Be an actual person people can relate to
It is important that your followers and fans know you are a real
person they can relate to, and not some bot on the Internet. Post a few good
photos on occasion to show yourself, and/or a member of your team.
Be a source of breaking news and trendy content
Facebook has interest lists that you can set up, and you can
follow industry sources on Twitter so you can share headline news as soon as it
breaks with all of your followers.
If
you are not on social media, you should be. Statistics show that 74% of adults in the United States have at least one
social media account, and many have more than one. Even larger percentages of
young people have social media accounts, and they in most cases will be keeping
them when they become adults.
There
is really no cheaper or faster way to get the word out on your products and
services. Social media is also
popular in other countries as well, and it is an excellent way to
engage and reach out to people overseas and across the globe.
If you want your business to grow and thrive, social media is an
excellent way to make that happen.
